Anglicare: Who we areAnglicans have been working for disadvantaged people in South Australia for 145 years. Anglicare SA is the major welfare arm of the Anglican Church in South Australia, and is one of the largest and most diverse human service organisations in the state. The work of Anglicare is not only to solve the immediate problems people are meeting from day to day, but also to help people to take control of their lives again. Our people deal with the causes of a problem, not simply the symptom. Anglicare helps people to discover their own strengths and their own solutions, giving them real hope. We work to help people get back on their own feet and be contributing members of society once again. Anglicare services are all over Adelaide, and beyond. Anglicare works with families in crisis, including providing foster care for their children, care for the elderly both in our homes and in the community, and child care for families who need it. As well, we offer emergency financial and food relief, financial counselling and recycled clothing shops in the northern suburbs, in the city, and in the southern suburbs. Emergency accommodation for homeless families and newly arrived refugees is available. Support and advice is offered to customers of the public housing system. Special care is provided for young people with intellectual disabilities, as well gamblers’ rehabilitation counselling, legal services for low income families, specialised grief and loss counselling, and marriage and relationship education classes. We operate a significant rehabilitation program for people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol in Port Adelaide. In five sites around Adelaide, Anglicare provides care and accommodation for elderly people who can no longer live on their own, as well as independent living facilities at Dutton Court in Elizabeth East. There are services aimed at helping people to maintain their independence at home for as long as possible, with therapeutic services and care and assistance brought to people's own homes. There are also three therapy centres offering activities, podiatry, physiotherapy and counselling services. Anglicare SA’s aim is always to make a positive difference to quality of life, to respond to needs in the community in ways which enhance peoples’ dignity and integrity, and to promote social justice. |
