Exceptional Needs

The Exceptional Needs program provides outreach services to clients with chronic and complex needs.  Most have a dual diagnosis including psychiatric and other disabilities, and alcohol and other drugs issues. Because of their complex needs, these clients may not readily access mainstream support.

The model is based on the philosophy of 'No Retreat' - contact is maintained with clients throughout cycles of relapse into challenging behaviour.

The principles by which our Exceptional Needs program runs are -

  • Client citizenship/social inclusion - based on client centered response to need.
  • Collaboration and partnerships between agencies and service providers.
  • Harm minimization and managing client behaviour
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Respect in all interactions
  • Peer support.
