Testimonials from Family & Community Development staff

Anglicare took a chance on me when I was involved in work for the dole in 2000. I've been with Anglicare ever since as they gave me greater confidence and I am proud of the work Anglicare does for the community. Being involved in housing within Anglicare I see a lot different people which has allowed me to get an up close view on the difference Anglicare is making
John Van Es

If you are into working with people in the community then join the warm, friendly staff here at Anglicare.
Annette Bullas

Anglicare enables me to work regular shifts while studying at uni and also the opportunity to undertake my field education placement with Anglicare in another domain of social work, Anglicare is so diverse the learning and opportunity never stops.
Chantel Mardon

There's a great team environment and everyone is really positive about making a difference in the community.

Anglicare is very well organised and extremely supportive, not only to their clients but to its employees as well. Being a carer is so rewarding – it’s about listening, being patient, flexible and having a sense of humour. I often feel so privileged to be a part of these special people’s lives who have lived through so much and have so many stories to share.

Testimonials from Nurses

I have been working in the aged care industry for approximately 10yrs, in both private and not-for-profit organisations. Over the past 18months I have been a part of a progressive and innovative team, a network of outstanding leaders, colleagues and peers and a workplace that is filled with dreams and aspirations for the future. I have had the opportunity to work closely with many managers, from individual sites to the Executive Director of Residential Aged and Community Care developing pilot projects into No Lift, No Injury, Aged Care Funding Models, Care planning, evaluation, validation and assisting in the Accreditation of sites. I have been given the opportunity to develop my Nursing career toward a direction that I have pursued, with the support, direction and assistance of the entire Anglicare Network. Anglicare is not just a place to work, but an environment where anything is possible!
Stuart Nicholson- Registered Nurse

I have been working in an Anglicare hostel for approximately a year while studying my nursing degree at the University of South Australia. It has been a pleasure to work in the hostel as well as an enjoyable experience to be in an occupation where I can learn and gain my knowledge of nursing practice on the job. In addition to that, having friendly and caring staff to work with is great, as well as the flexibility provided by the rostering manager (I can work more shifts when I have my holidays and less hours when I have my exams). I am working in a field which I really enjoy. It is a blessing to work in a place like this.
Sivyeang Ly – Care Worker

I have been working for Anglicare for almost 16 months now since completing my Graduate Nurse Program at FMC. I work in Low Level Care (Hostel) in one of Anglicare’s 5 Residential Care facilities. We have 88 residents in hostel, of which 54 residents are actually high level care. It is very busy but I really enjoy the challenge of working in residential care, especially for Anglicare. The benefits for working for Anglicare are:

  • Supportive, caring, family – like environment. We really do work as a team!
  • Flexible hours (I work office hours – not 7 day rotating roster!)
  • Educational opportunities: We are invited to attend various educational updates. (I will be undertaking Certificate IV Frontline Business Management, paid for by Anglicare)
  • Able to move within the various Anglicare sites.
  • Childcare discounts.
  • Salary Sacrifice.
    Tania Bamford – Registered Nurse

As a 2nd year nursing student, I believe there are many benefits in working at Anglicare SA. Anglicare is not only a positive environment to work in, but also provides staff with a supportive network to provide residents with the best possible care. One of the predominant benefits in working as a carer in aged care at Anglicare, is that I am still able to study while gaining further experience, as well as improving my nursing skills. Working at Anglicare has enabled me to develop my confidence in working with people of all ages and I have particularly learnt to appreciate the elderly. I enjoy working as a carer as I have learnt many skills which I know will be beneficial to me in the future.
Sharyn Jeisman – Care Worker

I began studying registered nursing 3 years ago. Working as a carer for Anglicare gave me much insight into the role of a registered nurse which made it easier for me to pass some of my Uni subjects. Anglicare were very flexible in allocating my work hours which was extremely beneficial to me because every semester I had different lecture, placement and tutorial times. I have also found the work environment to be more fun than at other jobs I have previously endured. I would therefore recommend working part-time for Anglicare whilst studying nursing at university.
Ivan Speight – Care Worker

I am currently studying a bridging course at Flinders University that will allow me to register as a nurse in Australia. Being from non-English speaking background, I am enjoying being a care worker for Anglicare as I can practise my English and have met lots of nice people. The residents here are very nice and I enjoy my work. I have flexible hours that fit in around my full-time studies and I am learning on the job as well. I hope to get a job with Anglicare as a Registered Nurse once I’ve finished my course at the end of the year.
Lini Michael – Care Worker

Anglicare has given me many opportunities to improve my patient care. I believe that I have gained confidence through encountering situations where I need to put my nursing knowledge into practice. I would not have as much experience and confidence if I had not taken this job while training as a registered nurse. I am so grateful because I have had experienced nurses and carers to turn to when I am not sure about a medical condition or situation. Anglicare has provided a supportive and caring environment for my continual studies.
Rebecca Wills – Care Worker

Anglicare provides a friendly working environment at which I can develop both professionally and personally with residents and fellow employees. The management team are understanding and considerate towards my university commitments and make every effort to work around my timetable.
Interaction with residents and their families is a valuable opportunity for me to further my communicative skills which will be beneficial for my future nursing career.
Anna Kelly – Care Worker

As a nursing student, practical experience is vital and the more you can get, the better. I have worked with Anglicare as a personal carer for two and a half years and have found it to be one of the most rewarding jobs I have had. As a carer I have developed confidence when interacting with residents and their families and allied health professionals such as doctors, physios and podiatrists, which has aided my clinical practice in the hospitals. There are numerous opportunities to practice and develop nursing skills and extra training sessions in subjects such as diabetes and manual handling to further enhance our learning. The people who work for Anglicare are amazingly friendly and welcoming and support is always available. However, as a student, one of the best aspects of working as a carer is the flexibility. Shifts are easily worked around uni (and social) commitments and there is great understanding by management of these time restraints. To any nursing or health science student I strongly recommend applying for a job as a carer as there are so many benefits to be gained and it can open to door to future career possibilities.
