19.02.2010 Magdalene Centre at the Fringe

The Magdalene Centre at the Adelaide Fringe Festival

The Magdalene Centre staff and clients had a ball with their float at the Adelaide Fringe Festival parade on 19 February.
The parade was the launch of the Fringe Festival, and The Magdalene Centre, as a landmark of central Adelaide, has taken part in the parade for some years now.
The float was constructed by members of The Magdalene Centre’s ‘Mary had a Little Art Group’, led by Sally Wickes, and with lots of help from the Fringe staff.
Mary’s little art group program is a free weekly activity which gives people on the margins the opportunity for recreation, creative expression, and the chance to meet people and make friends.
The group had worked on their float and costumes since January.
On the theme of ‘Space jam’, the float explored the idea of our own space and how and where we interact with others.
The Magdalene Centre’s many community activities, from art groups to cooking to advocacy to a huge range of social services, provide a whole range of places where people interact. For more information about The Magdalene Centre, click here.
More than 80,000 people are estimated to have watched the parade, which featured 80 floats.
