Community DevelopmentAnglicare runs a range of community programs to grow
stronger communities
In the northThe Food Barn at Elizabeth provides education in cooking and nutrition, and free lunches on weekdays, 11.30–1pm On the Way Snack Bar at Elizabeth is a friendly café with the best value meals in the area. Weekdays, 8.30am–3.30pm The Annexe at the shopping centre in Davoren Park (Cnr Peachey & Whitington Roads) offers breakfast for local school children three days per week, craft activities after school, holiday clubs, and adults only group for things like budget cooking and crafts. A community health program meets here weekly, for workshops on a range of issues, from parenting to depression The Plains community centre at Smithfield Plains has a range of free community activities like T’ai Chi, music and exercise. It’s also the base for a number of other community programs The Patch Community Garden at Elizabeth offers education in gardening and nutrition. It has facilities for people with disabilities In the cityThe Magdalene Centre offers a wide range of programs to encourage creative and practical skills, good health and economic participation across its two sites in the city.
The Magdalene Centre also hosts a number of community groups including; Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous and Sudanese men's cooking group. All courses are free and run at 26 Moore Street

In the southern suburbs Anglicare is the facilitating
partner in collaboration with Uniting Care Wesley –
Adelaide for the exciting new venture “Communities for
Children”. The project covers five suburbs: Morphett
Vale, Hackham, Hackham West, Christie Downs and
Lonsdale. The project will encourage people from these
communities to contribute to developing the services
which are most appropriate for them: whether they be
public transport, GPs, mental health or domestic
violence services. The program is all about healthy
families and strong communities. |
