COBBerS
Companions
Of Bereaved
By…er…Suicide
People do find it hard to actually say ‘that word’
suicide.
Research shows that the more sudden, unexpected and
unnatural the death, the harder it is for those around
the bereaved to express appropriate support. Living
Beyond Suicide has been funded by the Department of
Health and Ageing to raise the awareness in the
community of the needs of the bereaved and to promote a
greater sensitivity within service agencies in their
responses to the bereaved.
One day COBBerS Loss and Grief training workshops are now being offered
by LIVING Beyond Suicide. It is also the first day of
training for Living Beyond Suicide Volunteers.
It is
intended that COBBerS participants will be better
prepared to:
§
Understand the unique issues and experiences associated
with any significant loss, including suicide
§
Sensitively respond to those who are bereaved instead of feeling like
‘avoiding’ them
§
Access relevant resources and networks.
This
unique postvention training is recommended for:
professionals & service agencies ($60), the general
public and survivors (employed fulltime $50, part time
$20 and no cost if unemployed).
If
you are interested in applying for COBBerS training,
download an application form here, or if you are
interested in becoming a Living Beyond Suicide
Ambassador in your region for COBBerS
download this form, or contact Ali Laslett on 8301
