The Magdalene Centre
The Magdalene Centre offers a diverse range of
services to homeless and marginalised people and low
income households. We are at two sites in the city: 26
Moore Street and 42 Carrington Street.
Emergency assistance includes
- help with food, clothing and household goods,
- vouchers for petrol, prescriptions and food,
- bus tickets;
- assistance with energy and telephone bills.

No appointment necessary, but we are limited in the
number of daily interviews we can run, and we must close
the doors once we reach it. We conduct an interview to
assess your eligibility.
We also offer Financial counselling and a No Interest
Loan Scheme for essential household goods or medical

Community Development, participation and fun
through a vast range of programs to develop good health,
practical and creative skills including Art and
Photography, Latino Dancing and Conversational English.

Social Enterprise and economic participation
is stimulated through a range of programs to generate
income, creativity and develop small business skills
including The Big Issue magazine, jewellery and
sewing and a free dressing service for job interviews.

paper is sold by vendors on streets and at landmark
locations
throughout Australia. Vendors keep half of the cover
price of each magazine sold.

Energy Empowerment Program provides free home
energy reviews to low income households from the city to
Gawler. A review consists of practical advice to reduce
energy bills, an energy saver kit including long life
light globes, draught stopper and water saver
showerhead, a $125 fridge buy-back scheme and an

Community meeting place: We host a range of
community programs including Alcoholics Anonymous,
Narcotics Anonymous and Overeaters Anonymous. Phone (08) 8305 9382
Homeless Persons Legal Clinic comes to the
Centre each week. Fully qualified lawyers give their
time for free to homeless and marginalised people for
advice and to handle casework.
The Magdalene Bargain Centre The Magdalene
Bargain Centre offers quality used clothing and
homewares to people at very reasonable prices, and
free clothing and household goods to emergency
assistance customers with vouchers.
The Bargain Centre is also a market place for social
enterprise
products from the Magdalene Centre. There is
vintage and retro clothing, brand new Levis jeans for
$20 and and tops for $10–18. There are brand new thongs
to raise money for an orphanage in Aceh, books, and
bracelets made by our craft group.

The Magdalene Centre is a partnership between two
Anglican city churches: St Peter's Cathedral and St Mary Magdalene's, Moore
Street — and Anglicare SA.
