Healthy Relationships since Adam and Eve -- in the west
Positive Choices also host a range
of groups for the community with topics specifically
focussed on developing positive relationships, even
after relationships break down. Our aim is to prepare
couples and individuals for positive healthy
relationships by way of self development and skills
development.
Groups we are able to provide include topics such as
‘Stepfamilies and the effects on the relationships’,
‘After the Breakup’, ‘Relationship myths and realities’,
‘Using your love languages to overcome relationship
difficulties’, ‘Healthy Relationships since Adam and
Eve’
These groups are held in both our Morphett Vale and Hindmarsh sites.
Anglicare SA is a registered Professional Development
trainer for Civil Celebrants.
Anglicare SA provides professional development for Civil
Celebrants that ensures that the celebrant is
maintaining their skills by offering continued skill
development programs. Our training enables the
celebrant to keep up with the current and changing face
of marriage celebrants and explore ways of keeping them
linked to each other for ongoing support. We are
proud to host a Civil Celebrant networking meeting
every second month.
We host these on various days of the week to enable all Civil Celebrants an opportunity to attend. We attempt to provide a speaker on a topic for each meeting and an opportunity to network with other celebrants. This is a really useful way of newly approved celebrants and the more experienced ones to come together to share tips, hints and ideas.
All these are hosted at our Morphett Vale office. Please call Kerry on 8392 3108 to register your attendance to the next meeting.

We currently have two ongoing professional development programs:
Activity Title Beyond the Wedding Ritual
Activity Code 58
Website Address www.anglicare-sa.org
Location, Venue and dates
This activity will be run from our Morphett Vale site (above address) as well as the Anglicare site in the western region (184 Port Road, Hindmarsh). We are also able to negotiate to run this activity from other locations that are suitable for participants.
Relevance of activity to the marriage celebrant role:
This activity provides skill development for civil celebrants to understand the issues which challenge the stability and well being of couples marrying today. It will enable the marriage Celebrant to become aware of the tensions, behaviour and attitudes which contribute to, or detract from a comfortable working relationship. It will also provide skills to enhance effective relationships, including ways to incorporate feedback and referral information.
Importance of the activity to the marriage celebrant’s role:
This activity gives the marriage celebrants an opportunity to work with couples to reaffirm the commitment couples are making to each other. It also highlights for marriage celebrants the awareness of the philosophy and topics covered in a Marriage and Relationship Education program. This activity also provides learning around when to introduce the concept of marriage and relationship education to couples. Making note that marriage education is not about judging whether a couple is either ready or suited to marriage, or of predicting success, but rather a way to explore the commitment the couple have to the marriage and how to build that into ceremony.
Whether the activity is appropriate for an OPD activity.
This activity is highly suited for OPD, it works with the Marriage celebrants to identify and develop skills in working with couples who are about to marry, it provides a clear understanding of the principles of Marriage and Relationship Education as well as skills to undertaking the ‘tricky’ conversations with couples they refer to Marriage and Relationship Education programs.
The facilitators provide current statistics on research findings on how couples come to attend marriage education program and the perceived benefits they gain, through understanding more about themselves, their partner and their relationship.
Whether activity is appropriate for both those marriage celebrants performing civil marriage ceremonies and those performing religious marriage ceremonies:
This activity is appropriate for both civil and religious marriage ceremonies; it views the ritual of marriage as a sacred passage that couples enter into together, with the same level of commitment and understanding regardless of the setting. Our role as trainers is to ensure that the activity provides real opportunity to work through principles of making marriage work, how the concept of marriage education programs contribute to the richness of the relationships that couples have with each other and reaffirms the commitment they make
The overall professional standard of the activity proposed:
Anglicare considers that our professional standards of practice come to life in the learning environment. Our aim is to ensure that we provide quality professional learning in the marriage celebrant’s roles and we believe that in order to ensure quality professional learning, we must provide quality learning opportunities.
This activity will raise the awareness of the philosophy and topics covered in a marriage and Relationship Education program as well as bringing an understanding of the issues which challenge the stability and well being of couples marrying today.
Activity Title Challenging Situations
Activity Code 71
Website Address: www.anglicare-sa.org
Location, Venue and dates
This activity will be run from our Morphett Vale site (above address) as well as the Anglicare site in the western region (184 Port Road, Hindmarsh). We are also able to negotiate to run this activity from other locations that are suitable for participants.
Relevance of activity to the marriage celebrant role:
Aims to
develop understandings of the tensions which contribute
to challenging behaviour, as well as an awareness of the
behaviour, attitudes and language which contribute to or
detract from comfortable working relationships between
celebrant and client.
This activity will also assist celebrants to develop
skills, strategies and attitudes for engaging positively
and effectively by demonstrating respect for different
points of view, encouraging input from tooth parties,
using open questions, using reflective listening and
encouraging partners to explore ways in which
differences can be incorporated into the ceremony.
Importance of the activity to the marriage celebrant’s role:
This activity provides the marriage celebrants an opportunity to develop strategies and skills to enhance the opportunity for effective working relationships, ways of incorporating feedback and raise the awareness of useful resources, to name a few.
Whether the activity is appropriate for an OPD activity.
This activity is highly suited for OPD, it works with the marriage celebrants to explore tensions that might arise during the planning and celebration of the marriage ceremony, such as unresolved tension between partners caused by differing values, or the pressures that family may place on couples when there are irreconcilable differences.
The facilitators provide current statistics on research findings on how couples come to attend marriage education program and the perceived benefits they gain, through understanding more about themselves, their partner and their relationship.
